Keto Diet: Week 3

As I begin week 4 of the Keto Diet I have actually come to really embrace this lifestyle. I know this sounds crazy if you read my blog post from last week. Thanks to my Keto Friendly Peanut Butter Cookies my sugar cravings were completely gone. If I have a craving I just eat one of these cookies and my brain feels satisfied. I have been able to find creative ways to enjoy my favorite foods so it has been fun creating new recipes and figuring out what foods work best for my body. On Sunday I order biscuits and gravy at a local lounge. I was so disappointed! That is my favorite breakfast meal and I found it bland and actually didn’t eat more than a few bites. I am not sure if this is because now that my body doesn’t recognize carbs as a fuel source bread really is “tasteless” (this is something my dad used to say when he did the Paleo Diet a few years ago). I really don’t miss bread, pasta, or rice at all.

My weight has not changed since week 2, so I am still 5 pounds lighter than I was before I started. My waist is two inches smaller than it was during week 2. Two inches. That is a lot! My goal is to lose another 2 inches off my waist so I think I am going to stick with this diet for another 2 weeks. I could definitely see this being a sustainable and healthy lifestyle and I am toying with the idea of eating Keto forever, not just three or four 6 weeks periods throughout the year. However, football season is coming up which means it is almost time to tailgate! I don’t want to feel deprived from my favorite time of year. I am also training for a half marathon and need to see how my body feels training on the Keto Diet since there is limited sports science research on distance running and the Keto Diet. My recommendations for being successful on the Keto Diet is to meal prep, don’t deprive yourself, just modify your favorite foods to fit your Keto goals, keep up with your macros, enlist a buddy to do this with you, and keep eating a variety of foods so you don’t get bored.
